Uyghur Cotton: Trade, Politics, and Human Rights Much of the world’s cotton comes from the Uyghur region, where the world alleges the Chinese government is ethnically cleansing its Muslim minority. In response, the United States Government, and many others, have cracked down on imports of goods made from materials they believe originate from this region. China has threatened retaliatory sanctions of their own on foreign companies taking part in these trade-limiting policies. The whole thing results in a complicated situation for diplomats, consumers, manufacturers, and a global community trying to aid and bring comfort to an ethnic minority in crisis. Global Retail Shortages - As Much a Problem as It is a Mystery Post pandemic, the U.S. and the world have been struggling with retail and commercial shortages as the economy “restarts.” Strangely, there are all sorts of hypotheses as to why, but nobody is exactly sure.
