Who is TAPA?

The Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) is a global, industry-driven organization focused on reducing cargo crime and strengthening supply chain security.

TAPA AMERICAS represents North America, South America, and Canada and works with manufacturers, logistics providers, freight forwarders, insurers and law enforcement agencies to establish and maintain recognized security standards and best practices.

Let’s Get Started with TAPA In Practice

Step 1 – Become a TAPA Member (Optional but Recommended)

Most organizations choose to become members of TAPA AMERICAS to access additional resources, industry intelligence and training opportunities.

Membership offers several advantages, including:

  • access to TAPA standards documentation
  • participation in training and workshops
  • networking opportunities with global supply chain security professionals
  • participation in industry initiatives and conferences

Membership Options

Corporate Membership (Full Voting Membership) is available to a company that manufactures, transports, stores, warehouses, or insures commodities at a high risk of theft. ($2,100 USD per Calendar year. Each additional person is $650) – Up to 4 delegates included in this membership.

Individual Membership (Full Voting Membership) is available to anyone who manufactures, transports, stores, warehouses, or insures commodities at high risk of theft. ($650 USD per Calendar year.) This membership category is non-transferrable.

Associate Membership is available to (a) full-time, active professional law enforcement personnel; (b) full-time college students majoring in criminology, law enforcement, or logistics; (c) auditing company employees, and (d) non-profit organizations, and NGOs. The Associate membership is non-voting. (Annual membership dues are waived.)

SSP (Security Service Provider) Membership is for providers of supply-chain security services and/or products to companies that manufacture, transport, store, warehouse, or insure commodities at high risk of theft. This is a non-voting membership. ($5,000 USD per each 12-month period.) Up to 3 delegates included in this membership.

Consultant Membership is available to a limited number of companies conducting Consultant services specializing in supply chain security, which makes this specialty their core business objective. Consultant members are solo or firm-based practitioners. This is a non-voting membership. Annual dues for a Consultant Membership are $1,200 per membership Calendar year. This membership allows up to two individuals. There is an additional fee of $650 for each individual beyond two.

Note: Consultants offering security products, installations, or software solutions will be considered an SSP and moved to this membership category and corresponding dues.

Step 2 – Understand and Choose the TAPA Standards

Depending on your operations, you may work with one or more of the following:

Facility Security Requirements (FSR)

  • Designed for logistics facilities such as warehouses, distribution centers and cross-dock locations.
  • This standard defines security requirements for buildings, access control, monitoring and operational procedures.

Trucking Security Requirements (TSR)

  • Developed for companies transporting cargo by road.
  • The TSR standard covers vehicle security, route planning, driver procedures and operational controls.

Freight Brokers Security Requirements (FBSR)

Designed specifically for brokers who arrange transportation without owning physical assets, the FBSR provides a structured, tiered approach to implementing security protocols that align with the needs of shippers and carriers.

Understanding which standard applies to your organization is the first step in your TAPA journey.

Step 3 – Take the Relevant TAPA Training

TAPA training helps organizations understand the requirements of each standard and how to implement them effectively within their operations.

Training is strongly recommended before starting a certification process and is often compulsory for staff responsible for compliance and audits.

Training options include:

  • Standard-specific training (FSR, TSR, FBSR)

Training courses explain:

  • how the standards work
  • how to implement security measures
  • how certification audits are conducted
  • how to maintain compliance

Step 4 – Choose Your Certification Pathway

Once you understand the standard and have prepared your organization, the next step is certification.

Members & Non-Members

  • FSR Levels A & B: All audits must be conducted by a TAPA-approved audit provider. We currently do not charge a fee. However, non-members must pay for Standards Training - $699
  • TSR Levels 1 & 2: All audits must be conducted by a TAPA-approved audit provider. We currently do not charge a fee. However, non-members must pay for Standards Training - $699
  • FBSR (all tiers): All audits must be conducted by a TAPA-approved audit provider. We currently do not charge a fee. However, non-members must pay for Standards Training - $699

Members Only
Self-Certifications (FSR & TSR): The company must be a member of TAPA AMERICAS. We do not currently charge a fee for self-certifications. However, non-members must pay for Standards Training - $699

Certificates
Once your site successfully completes the certification process, it will receive an official TAPA certificate demonstrating compliance with the relevant standard.
